My Flashman is a Copper

I have just been burgled, All my things are gone

I’ve called the local station, But they’ve not sent no one

They tell me they can’t make it yet, But I’ll wager, yes I’d bet

They’re on the road with cameras set, They’re out taking pictures

But if I tried to save my lot, and with the villains I had fought

They’d be round here like a shot, Instead of taking pictures

There’s a poor old lady, Out there in the street

For her pension money, She is being beat

The boys in blue will soon be here, They’ll solve the crime you have no fear

In fact their squad car’s very near, its out taking pictures

Makes no difference young or old, Our trusty coppers once so bold

Are all out there upon the road, Taking lots of pictures

My car it’s been stolen, Someone’s done me wrong

I left it in my driveway, And now its been and gone

I waited in but no one came, They didn’t care who was to blame

They’ll send a number for my claim, Cos they’re still  taking pictures

They’re out there spending all their time, on the motorists they are spying

When they should be out stopping crime, instead of taking pictures

There’s a speeding motor, Can’t you feel the power

It’s tearing down the highway, At forty miles an hour

What a villain, what a rogue, A hardened criminal on the road

The force is with him and he’s told, They’ve taken several pictures

He’ll lose his licence, go to court, For doing what he shouldn’t ought

His only crime was being caught, Now he’s on the pictures

They’re out there weekly, out there daily, In Westcliff, Benfleet even Rayleigh

They must think they’re David Bailey, Taking all those pictures
