The Annual Charity Duck Race

On Sunday, the Leigh on Sea Lions Club held their second annual Charity Duck Race at Old Leigh. The ducks were sponsored by Adventure Island in Southend and were rescued, just before they made their way to Southend Pier, by the 3rd Chalkwell Bay Scouts.

Hundreds and hundreds of small yellow rubber ducks were let loose by the Old Leigh Cockle Sheds and allowed to make their way past Billet Wharf towards the Peter Boat Inn.

Each duck was numbered and was sponsored by the public who helped Leigh on Sea Lions Club raise almost £1,500 for local good causes.

Local MP, David Amess was on hand to see fair play and to announce the winning ducks, he praised the members of the Lions Club, many of whom had spent the previous day helping to run a Sports Day for the Disabled at Temple Sutton School .
