The Lions Hearing Trust

The Lions District 105EA Hearing Trust is a charitable organisation with objectives to promote and encourage better communication with  the hearing impaired.

This is primarily achieved through the promotion and organisation of Deaf Awareness Sessions where information is provided to improve understanding of the problem of hearing loss  and training given to assist in better communication with those with a hearing impairment.

 Did you know ?

There are 8.7 million hearing impaired people in the United Kingdom

It is the second biggest disability following mobility, and it is increasing day by day.

One in four adults over the age of 55 suffers from a loss of hearing

70% of the UK’s  assets are held by the over 55s.

RECOGNITION OF HEARING IMPAIRED

The tragedy of hearing impairment is that it is invisible and therefore a double disability. To progress not only do we need the recognition of those in the hearing world who are prepared to help, but recognition of those who are hearing impaired. To this end, we have designed a plastic card again carrying the same logos for use by the hearing impaired with the basic decencies of communication, which apply to everybody whether hearing impaired or otherwise. On issue the card can fit into a wallet or purse and when produced advises our trained helper that assistance is required.

RECOGNITION OF PARTICIPATING ORGANISATIONS

The Trust has adopted the International ear symbol together with the Lions logo. Both recognised worldwide and to be used as a sign that people on these premises have undertaken a training course and given a promise to assist in communicating with the hearing impaired.
